D-Link DSL-2540B ADSL2/2+ Modem with 4-Port Ethernet Router TR067/069

Great Deal D-Link DSL-2540B ADSL2/2+ Modem with 4-Port Ethernet Router TR067/069

First of all I wanted you to know that this is a great modem/router. Before I had a modem and a router (I have three computers hooked up in the house). My old modem finally gave out and I wanted to try this one since it had the router built in. The biggest problem was it wouldn't connect to the internet and I couldn't figure it out. So I called customer service and was told that you had to get a VIC and a VPI number and that could only be obtained from the internet service provider (AT&T) but it wouldn't be a problem to get it. Let me tell you the internet provider doesn't want to give it out......that way you have to buy your modems from them. After hashing it out with them for about fifteen minutes and threatening to drop their service and talk to their supervisor they gave it to me. THen it was just a matter of typing in the numbers and the modem worked perfectly.
So be prepared for a little hassle if you want to buy this product. I haven't tried any other modems so I can't tell you if they are as difficult.
I wish dlink had included an installation cd as well.......instead all they do is give you a manual on a cd but after reading 68 pages you still don't know how to fix your problems....
All in all though I really do like this product......even with the hook up problems. It is so much nicer to have a modem and a router in one and looks much neater. Also my computers are running faster.....that shows the old modem was really on it's last leg.

Verizon Internet torpedoes installation - James Chaffin - Bryan, Texas
I purchased and returned this modem/router combo. I was never able to get it installed. The killer was the attitude of Verizon Internet. They refused to provide the required parameters to assure a successful installation. They will not provide needed information if the device being installed is not 'supported' by them. (read 'sold by them') I was blackmailed into buying a relabled (Verizon) Actiontec router/modem combo. The problems experienced were not the fault of Amazon or D-Link. Both provided exemplary service. I rated 1 star only because of the inaction of Verizon technical services support.

Solid DSL Modem/Router - M. Hayes - CO USA
I've had this DSL Modem/Router for a couple months now and am pleased with my purchase. Biggest challenge was verifying the configuration settings from my provider. After a thirty-minute chat session with EarthLink tech support, I was able to confirm the default settings were correct.

The D-Link unit is well built and has performed flawlessly to date. I bought this to replace an ISP provided DSL modem and Linksys router that would occasionally slow down and lose connectivity. So far, this unit has not exhibited any such behavior and performance seems to be marginally faster though I've not done any measurements to compare.

Overall, this unit is performing as advertised and I am pleased with my purchase.

I've been using cable modems since they were available in my area (Comcast currently, used to be AT&T, before that Excite @Home and before that just plain @Home). I got pretty used to the way DOCSIS modems work, and though I wasn't the world's greatest fan, I liked their simplicity compared to the DSL modems I've been exposed to via friends/colleagues/customers. Though this modem doesn't quite deliver the same amount of single-purpose-ness (It's still got a built-in router), it comes pretty close. The built in router functionality can be disabled easily, and the web interface is simple to navigate ant worked perfectly with my new (pretty sketchy) Qwest connection.

I like that it has at least some built-in diagnostics, though understandably limited logging capabilities. There are several built-in setup options in the configuration web page - so if you're really familiar with DSL networks, you've got to option to forgo the time consuming auto setup (it took about 10 minutes to finally detect and configure for Quest's DSL service in my experience).

I really like that it's tiny and doesn't have any built-in wireless adapters - This might be a minus for some folks who would rather have one box to do it all and not think about it, but I'd much rather have the duties of modem, router and wireless access point spread out to different devices (or at least devices with the hardware power to actually do the jobs competently).

Overall, I'm much more pleased with this modem than I expected to be. It's made the switch to Quest slightly less painful (albeit, all of the pain I've experienced has come from Quest's lousy service)

Wow - Couldn't be easier! - Country Tech - Rochester, NY
My ISP is Frontiernet which isn't one of the bigger, more nationally known, providers so I was expecting to spend time trying to figure out how to configure the modem and I knew Frontiernet would not help as they want to rent theirs (at a nice monthly charge of course!)

Well, it couldn't be easier to setup! After making the physical connections, I went to the Administration web page for the modem and clicked on auto-configure. After a couple of minutes, it was up and running - it didn't prompt me for ANYTHING....... it just worked. A little scary that it didn't even need me to enter my account credentials.

The only think I would caution is that the default setting seems to be for the firewall to be turned off. It's simple to turn it on and configure it but some people might not check this.
